Reduce Risk and Improve Care by Engaging Physicians with Thought-Leading Courseware

It is imperative that facilities recognize the leadership role played by their physicians in patient safety initiatives by incorporating physicians into learning culture and, a team-based systems approach. Dr. William E. Jacott, M.D., Special Advisor for Professional Relations to The Joint Commission, states "Physician leadership and involvement are critically important to the success of patient care and patient safety improvement efforts." This program addresses the need for physician involvement by providing a highly interactive course, utilizing case-base scenarios, problem solving models, and performance improvement activities making use of actual practice data. The ABMS Patient Safety Improvement Program, developed with the help of an advisory committee of nationally-recognized subject matter experts, provides a comprehensive curriculum that is designed to develop the physician’s skill set and best practices using familiar models and improvement techniques.

The Program has four primary components: (1) case-based patient scenarios that highlight key themes of patient safety, (2) patient safety curriculum for dealing with errors and adverse events in medical settings using themed examples from areas of national concern, (3) QI Fundamentals to help identify areas for change and incorporate QI measures, and (4) patient safety improvement activities that guide physicians through the concepts, methods, and tools learned to improve patient safety. By participating in the ABMS Patient Safety Improvement Program your physicians learn essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes about safety and apply them in their environment.
