Prepare for Pandemic Influenza

Train Your Staff on Appropriate Actions to Take during a Pandemic

Scientists and public health officials predict that global conditions are conducive to a severe pandemic flu outbreak that could result in up to 1.9 million deaths in the United States and approximately 9.9 million Americans’ needing to be hospitalized. Unlike the seasonal flu, humans have no previously developed immunity against pandemic flu, which has the potential to infect a large portion of the world’s population in a very short period of time. For example, in the 1918 Influenza Pandemic it is estimated that anywhere from 70 to 100 million people were killed worldwide. In order to help your facility prepare for this potential disaster, HealthStream has partnered with Yale New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response to offer the course Planning and Response to Pandemic Influenza for Health Care Workers. The courseware outlines pandemic influenza types and provides effective steps an organization must take in order to prepare for a flu pandemic and prevent transmission of the disease among patients and staff.
