IMPROVE ED PATIENT OUTCOMES
Perform Advanced Adult and Pediatric Assessments
using either the CTAS or ESI

|
Incorrect triage processes are critically detrimental to Emergency Departments because under-triage compromises patient safety and over-triage exhausts limited resources. The root cause of incorrect triage is often lack of education, inexperience, and empathy burnout. The Emergency Department Triage Clinical Expertise course was designed by industry-leading experts specifically to prevent incorrect triage practices. The second step in Triage First’s Pathway to Triage Competency Series, the Emergency Department Triage Clinical Expertise course teaches advanced conceptual and clinical knowledge by applying the previous lessons to the forty adult/pediatric clinical case scenarios. References and teaching points build on the prior lessons and reinforce discriminators to more accurately reflect best patient outcomes. This course improves point of entry processes and patient outcomes by teaching ED nurses how best to elicit and document the patient’s symptom-based chief complaint, perform the appropriate rapid and/or comprehensive assessment, facilitate a rapid medical evaluation when certain criteria are met, consider worst-case scenarios to drive a rapid/focused assessment, and assign accurate acuity and appropriate dispositions.

- Decrease congestion in emergency treatment areas
- Provide accurate and timely information to patients and families
- Contribute information that helps to define departmental acuity
Features:
- ESI and CTAS specific education
- Realistic clinical case scenarios including teaching points
- Addresses both adult and pediatric cases
- Supporting documentation included
- Supplemented by CONtinuing Triage And
- Competency Training Series (Contacts)
This course is essential for:
- Reduced ED wait times
- Improved ED processes
This course supports:
- Joint Commission 2008 Patient Safety Goal #16
- ENA/ACEP task force conclusion, 2004 (Use a valid and reliable 5-level triage acuity scale)
Course Objectives
This course provides an advanced level of triage competency, conceptual knowledge, and clinical skill sets related to the use of either the ESI or CTAS five-level acuity scale through the delivery of forty clinical adult and pediatric case presentations.
