Course Description: This course introduces the learner to basic venipuncture. The program has been designed to familiarize the learner with basic venipuncture techniques, principles, and supporting theory.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
- Identify aspects of pertinent anatomy and physiology, as well as the equipment and techniques involved with intravenous (IV) therapy.
- Describe the solutions used by the EMS Professional for intravenous therapy and the pertinent aspects of fluid resuscitation
- Identify indications for initiating intravenous therapy in the prehospital setting and the possible complications of IV therapy.
- Calculate an intravenous flow rate.
