Course Description: We live in a world under constant threat of terrorism. This course, the second of four parts, provides information to help you identify scenarios and key indicators of an event involving biological agents. It covers mechanisms of action, clinical signs and symptoms, initial evaluation, triage, and field treatment of victims. It also discusses personal safety, protection, and decontamination options in responding to these events.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this online activity, the participant should be able to: - Identify scenarios or key indicators of a WMD/terrorism incident involving the release of a biological agent.
- Discuss the mechanism of action, clinical signs and symptoms, initial evaluation, triage, and field treatment of victims contaminated with a biological agent.
- Determine appropriate personal safety and personal protective equipment to be donned while responding to an incident involving the release of a biological agent.
- Discuss decontamination options and patient transport when responding to patients who have been potentially exposed to the release of a biological agent.
