Course Description: Oxygen is essential to our bodies. Inadequate perfusion can have irreversible effects, such as organ failure, loss of brain function, and death. This course will describe the normal structures and functions of the respiratory system and present appropriate techniques for assessing and managing the patient experiencing a respiratory emergency.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: - Discuss the normal structure and function of the respiratory system.
- Describe the mechanics of respiration, the respiratory cycle, and the process of gas exchange and transport.
- Outline the chemical and nervous regulatory controls for respiration.
- Formulate a plan for properly assessing and managing the patient experiencing a respiratory emergency.
