Course Description: According to the American Burn Association, there are over one million burn injuries per year, 700,000 of which require emergency department treatment. This course will describe the incidence of burn injuries, identify appropriate burn types and patterns, discuss local and systemic reactions to burn trauma, and present appropriate assessment and management techniques for patients who have experienced burn trauma.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe burn injury incidences.
- Identify appropriate burn types and patterns, based upon the age of the burn.
- Discuss both local and systemic reactions to burn trauma.
- Determine appropriate assessment and management of burn trauma.
