Course Description: In prehospital emergency care, the administration of medications to victims of life-threatening illness is one area of great responsibility for emergency medical technicians. Frequently, these medications can make the difference between life and death. This course will discuss the indications, contraindications, actions, side effects, usual dose, and route of administration for medications most commonly administered by the EMT-Basic.
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: - List the indications, contraindications, actions, side effects, usual dose, and route of administration for the three medications commonly carried on the BLS ambulance.
- List the indications, contraindications, actions, side effects, usual dose, and route of administration for the three medications that the EMT-Basic may assist the patient in administering.
- Given a list of symptoms and signs, choose the patient who is a candidate for the use of one of the three medications commonly administered by the EMT-Basic.
- Given a list of symptoms and signs, choose the patient who is a candidate for the use of one of the three medications that the EMT-B may assist the patient in administering.
