Course Description:
Traumatic brain injury is an insult to the brain caused by an external physical force that may produce a diminished or altered state of consciousness. This insult may result in an impairment of cognitive abilities or physical functioning. This course will review the anatomy and physiology of the brain and discuss assessment techniques and appropriate therapies for managing traumatic brain injuries.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recall the definition of a traumatic brain injury.
  • Identify the mechanism of injury, signs, and symptoms seen in patients with traumatic brain injury.
  • Identify pediatric considerations for patients with traumatic brain injury.
  • Identify at least two treatment parameters related to patients with traumatic brain injury.
