Module 1: Fetal Assessment: Maternal Fetal Physiology and Acid-Base Assessment - Nurses

Credits Hours: 2.00

Course Description:
This module discusses how issues with the fetal oxygenation path are reflected in nonreassuring fetal heart rate strips, and provides a framework for determining the oxygenation issue and the proper intervention in the face of a nonreassuring pattern.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this online activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Recognize the normal anatomy and physiology of uteroplacental-fetal circulation.
  • Identify how forces can act on this circulation in a pathologic process that affects oxygen delivery to the fetus.
  • Identify the effect umbilical cord occlusion has on oxygen delivery to the fetus.
