This module provides a standard nomenclature for fetal heart rate patterns and guides learners in pattern recognition and interpretation.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this online activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Define and identify the different components of a fetal heart rate tracing.
  • Identify most common fetal heart rate patterns.
  • Identify maternal and fetal causes of different patterns.
  • Apply the ACOG standard categorization of reassuring and nonreassuring patterns.
  • Distinguish between fetal heart rate patterns that are clearly reassuring, clearly nonreassuring and less easily categorized.
