Course Description: As only 10% of cases of neonatal encephalopathy are caused by intrapartum hypoxia, the module provides ACOG guidelines for determining whether hypoxia is involved and provides cases in which the user determines the cause of neonatal encephalopathy.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this online activity, the participant should be able to: - Identify the fetal physiological responses to hypoxia.
- List the forms of neurological damage that may be caused by hypoxia.
- Name the four guidelines used by ACOG to ascribe intrapartum hypoxia proximate to birth as a cause of neonatal depression, neonatal encephalopathy, and cerebral palsy.
- Apply the ACOG criteria to specific cases.
