There’s a new way for people to learn how to save lives at a number of airports across the country. It is now possible to learn and practice Hands-Only CPR, a short process that takes just a few minutes; kiosks in five airports provide quick lessons and allow learners to practice via a video touch-screen and a kiosk-attached CPR manikin.

This initiative was created by the Anthem Foundation and American Heart Association. The Anthem Foundation also was recently recognized by the AHA for its support of Hands-Only CPR with a Meritorious Achievement award.

The Anthem foundation has made a commitment of $12.4 million over eight years to help the AHA expand awareness and educate millions of people about CPR without rescue breaths, also known as Hands-Only CPR.

The American Heart Association shares that “Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest happens more than 350,000 times a year across the country, often in public places like airports, casinos and sporting facilities. Survival depends on getting CPR right away, and survival rates drop as much as 10 percent for every minute that goes by without intervention.”

They add that “Hands-Only CPR consists of calling 911 and pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest until help arrives if you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse.”

Other airports where kiosks have been installed are Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, Indianapolis International Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Expansion plans are in the works for Las Vegas and Washington, D.C.
