Why Adopt a High Quality Resuscitation Program for the Care Continuum?

Healthcare is changing significantly—more care is occurring outside hospitals, and organizations across the care continuum are treating patients with far higher levels of acuity than ever before.   • Improved Student Confidence - A key component of a successful resuscitation training program is to ensure that students cannot fail. If they do not get a passing score on their first attempt, they can repeat the exercise and continue to incorporate feedback from the manikins into their practice until they have mastered the skill. This improves students’ confidence in their ability to provide high-quality CPR during an actual Code. Importance of High Quality Resuscitation in Hospice Environment

To use just one of the continuum care environments as an example, high quality resuscitation is extremely important during end-of-life and palliative care. Often people assume that hospice is where people go when they’re ready to die, but that is not always the case. Patients receiving care may have desires for certain interventions, and staff should be prepared to make every effort to sustain life for them, not to mention their visitors and family members. Additionally, patients may be there without a directive, and staff is responsible to deliver CPR until a directive is developed or found. Also, if a facility is going to be available to provide CPR, they should be able to do so at a level that would provide opportunity for the best outcomes.
