Sisters of Charity Leavenworth Health System’s partnership with HealthStream allowed their education teams to create a training approach that provided system-wide access, standardization, and the ability to easily track and report required compliance training, while:

- Providing the ability to evaluate initial and annual associate competencies
- Reducing duplication of course development
Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth (SCL) Health System is a faith-based, nonprofit health care organization that has over 13,000 associates engaged in operating 9 hospitals, 4 safety net clinics, 1 children’s mental health center, and more than 190 ambulatory service centers in four states—Colorado, Kansas, Montana, and California. It is a $2.2 billion health network that is dedicated to improving the health of the communities and individuals it serves, especially those who are poor and vulnerable. In 2012, the SCL Health System provided more than $250 million in community benefit, including services for the poor, health screenings, educational programs, community donations, and research. The SCL Health System was founded by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, who opened their first hospital in 1864.
The SCL Health System planned to update its existing HR system which led to an evaluation of their current learning center offerings and processes. As a result, they found that some system providers had created their own homegrown courses while others were using learning management solutions from other vendors, all of which was not standardized or consistent. The SCL Health System decided that a new learning management solution would increase employee efficiency, compliance with regulations, and reporting capability.
The SCL Health System selected the HealthStream Learning Center (HLC) in March, 2013 because it has proven technology capabilities, dedicated customer service support, and a vast amount of content. They engaged HealthStream Professional Services to scope, customize, plan, and manage their implementation experience. In addition, a team of domain experts, database, operations, and training specialists were assigned, and a workshop was held onsite to handle setup and training for the HLC.
The SCL Health System noted that the HealthStream Professional Services team was knowledgeable and understood their specific problems and continually kept them informed. They were very supportive and always available for questions or to address any concerns they had. It was clear that the HealthStream Professional Services team truly cared about the success of the HLC implementation at SCL Health System.When asked about working with HealthStream’s Professional Services team, Jason Sunseri of JCS Learning states, “As we worked through implementation, we immediately created a partnership with them which allowed us to create an environment of continual dialogue, support, and assistance.” He adds, “The HealthStream professional service team was with us from the beginning to end which included introductions to current clients for us to ask questions and to learn about what had worked and did not work during their implementation process.”
