Can you tell us briefly about your organization and its expertise with healthcare and healthcare-specific education?

With over 400 healthcare clients, including hospital systems, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare insurance companies, we have been helping our healthcare clients prepare staff to face many of the challenges facing healthcare companies today. The landscape in healthcare is changing rapidly, and healthcare companies must develop the skills of their staff in order to remain competitive.

What are some of the big challenges you are helping care organizations address?

We help our healthcare clients with some of their biggest challenges. For example, healthcare is just beginning to face a labor and talent shortage. Our management and leadership development content helps both new and experienced managers ensure that they have the skills needed to support the workforce and that the organization is able to build the leadership pipeline that all successful organizations must possess. Developing a strong team of leaders in the organization is critical to address the impact of turnover, which is so costly in healthcare.

In addition our compliance solutions address more than 500 risk topics, providing one of the largest global libraries of legal coverage, ethics training, and workplace safety training. Compliance training is key because organizations that do not have a compliance mindset put themselves at great risk. The risks are costly to the bottom line—potential fines, penalties, and legal fees in the hundreds of millions or more. Employee turnover, customer dissatisfaction, and damage to brand and reputation can seriously impact your ability to recruit and retain the best talent.

In what ways are you helping them address these challenges? What changes do you help them make?

We help our healthcare clients become more nimble and effective training organizations by providing content that engages the learner and provides learners with the tools to improve many of the skills that are necessary to succeed in their jobs. In addition we help healthcare organizations build a more resilient and responsible workforce allowing them to respond to the challenges that are currently transforming healthcare.

Do you have some research about your solution(s) and their problem-solving capability that our audience needs to know about?

Skillsoft has partnered with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Office of Digital Learning and Accenture to embark on an extensive research initiative that is delving into the science of learning to precisely determine what instructional strategies stimulate employee engagement and interest.

Some planned experiments for the research team include assessing the impact of scenario-based versus instructor-led video content on recall; analyzing the impact of presenting material to the viewer in advance of a video; reviewing the impact of interpolated testing or quizzes within the videos to see how it influences interest and retention; and assessing the impact of the employee’s mindset (e.g., growth/grit) to understand whether people with a growth mindset learn regardless of a video’s quality.

Can you share any specific stories about customer achievements using your solutions?

Many of our healthcare clients have used our solutions to further the strategic objectives of their organizations. Some examples include:

  • A hospital system in the Midwest that achieved a 526% ROI based on the use of our content to reduce the costs of instructor-led training and a reduction in travel costs
  • Numerous clients use our solutions to ensure that they are able to provide the required compliance coursework to employees. They are able to do so much more efficiently through the use of our mobile app as a way to reach their on-the-go workforce.
  • One of the largest U.S. healthcare companies relies on our content to ensure that their IT department is able to support their existing initiatives in both data analytics and care management.

What are you working on for improving the future of healthcare?

We will continue to support our healthcare clients through the constant updating and refreshing of our content, helping them to thrive in the new digital era of learning. The healthcare employees of the future will be required to collaborate with other staff and patients with several “cross discipline” skills such as emotional intelligence, digital skills and leadership skills, and we will be providing the content to make sure healthcare clients are able to provide the training to support these skills.
