The Top Challenges for Healthcare Leaders in 2017

The HealthStream100 Share Their Views on Potential Challenges for Healthcare Leaders in 2017.

The HealthStream100 were asked to rate the degree (on a five-point scale) to which they believe selected healthcare issues may be significant challenges for healthcare leaders in 2017. Of the 11 issues tested in this quarter’s poll, managing care delivery under new incentive payment models (e.g., bundled payments) is perceived to be the biggest challenge for healthcare leaders in the coming year (mean score of 3.75). Over 98% of our panel agree that this particular issue will be a significant challenge in 2017.

Changes to physician reimbursement (3.55) is ranked second in order of concern. With implementation of the MACRA’s Quality Payment Program set to begin in 2017, healthcare leaders who employ physicians are scrambling to understand the new requirements and prepare for quality reporting under the Merit-based Incentive Payment System or advanced Alternative Payment Models. Over 90% of our panel agree that changes to physician reimbursement will be an issue for healthcare leaders next year.
