About the Customer

CHRISTUS Ochsner Lake Area Hospital is an 88-bed, full-service acute care hospital with a focus on inpatient and outpatient services.

Challenge

With new perioperative nurses onboarding to the team, the periop services director knew they needed a better way to supplement their current training. Unfortunately, at the time they had very few OR nurses available for on-the-job training, and those with an education role primarily spent their time on the floor.

Solution

It was imperative to add online training options that would not require extensive time or responsibility from current staff. Further, because new hires were a mix of new graduates and seasoned nurses, utilizing adaptive learning material was crucial. The periop services director chose AORN Periop 101 to fill the need for supplemental knowledge transfer and meet the needs of all nurses.

Results

Readily available and easy to set up, AORN Periop 101 was the perfect choice to utilize their existing HealthStream platform access. With content assigned through the HealthStream Learning Center, their nurses are now able to easily obtain the necessary educational resources on their own to fill any knowledge gaps. As a result, confidence among OR staff has greatly increased. Their OR nurses are happy to have a standing resource readily available.
