The Role of Anticipated ROI in the Decision

The potential ROI made by switching to HealthStream’s automated tool made the decision for ASHN to go paperless an easy one. If an organization has approximately 1,500 clinicians and spends more than half of a day doing completions with paper forms, the organization could be losing close to $200,000 annually that easily could be recovered by automating these processes.

Paper Forms Easily Get Misplaced

Warthman explains that before ASHN began using the Checklist Management tool, they were losing a lot of time completing clinician competencies with paper and piecing together paper forms that got lost or separated while en route to human resources. “Keeping track of paper checklists for our clinicians was a big pain,” Warthman says. “We have over 20 items that our clinicians are checked off on annually, and parts of the checklists would always get separated and misplaced, and we spent a lot of time tracking down all of the pieces.”

ASHN knew it was time to get rid of the paperwork and move to an automated system—a move that resulted in a simplified and streamlined checklist process.
